DCLL at Derby Pride 2022

On Saturday the 10th of September, Markeaton Park played host to Derby Pride 2022. We at Derby City Life Links are proud to say that we were there in full support!

Recovery workers Abbie and Josh, along with volunteer Dom, were at the stall all day providing attendees with information on not only Derby City Life Links and the support that we offer, but vital information on mental health within the LGBT+ community. For example;

32% of LGBT+ adults are more likely to drink dangerously, compared to 24% of heterosexual adults.

61% of the LGBT+ community have experienced anxiety.

The 10th of September was also Suicide Prevention Day. We at DCLL teamed up with the charity Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS) to provide some information about suicide, and the important work that they do!

However, we also had many fun activities on the day for people to get involved with! Our badge maker proved a huge success with over 250 badges made, including not just Pride designs, but llama’s, and even Pokemon!

We also had a competition to guess how many Pom Poms were in a jar, with the winner getting a free Wellbeing Toolbox!

We can announce that there were…

115 POM POMS

Our winner has been contacted! They were so close, with a guess of 114.

Finally, let’s not forget that on the day, we were joined by our friends at the GXO Logistics (Ted Baker) Warehouse in Derby. Between them (and with some help from passers by) they rode a total of 50 miles to celebrate 50 years of Pride in the UK! Fantastic work and well done to all involved!

We would like to thank Derby Pride, and all those that came to speak to us on the day!

We hope to see you again next year!
