Let’s GIVE
But Why …….. ?
Giving is a really great way to boost our wellbeing and that of others. Evidence suggests helping/giving to others helps us by building our sense of compassion. This in turn promotes positive changes in the brain which can make happiness even more long lasting!
The great thing is that giving does not have to be financial. We can give someone a compliment, share some positive news with them or just give them a listening ear. Greater still, we can do this acts of ‘giving’ even when we’re in lockdown. This means the virus doesn’t have to beat us on this front!
Being mindful of this, why not do something different today by GIVING….
As life in these unprecedented times has been challenging and more so for people struggling with their mental health, we at Derby City Life Links have been trying to provide substantial support being mindful of the government’s guidelines. As part of this effort , for the Mental Health Awareness Week commencing on the 18th of May we are running online sessions each day till the 22nd of May. Please come and join in the talks, or check back during the week for reflections.

Blog Update
Thank you to everyone who attended the GIVE zoom talk. We spoke about how we feel when someone gives us something. It makes us feel happy, appreciated and loved .What can we give in this time where physical contact is limited, when we cant go to the shops to buy flowers or gifts?
We have so many other things to give aside from our material possessions. We can give time by talking to a friend instead of texting them. Say hello to your neighbour, smile at a passer by, or send a postcard to let someone know we are thinking about them. A great free gift is joining the community to clap for our frontline workers on a Thursday evening!
But it’s also important to give to ourselves. When we allow ourselves the kindness we often give to others, we nurture our mental health and wellbeing. How about we give ourselves patient and time to do the things we love? Maybe you’ve had your eye on a new piece of clothing for a while, or have wanted to take up a new hobby. If so, maybe now’s the time to treat yourself (all in moderation, of course!).
Sometimes the best gift we can give to ourselves is a pat on the back and acknowledging that we are good enough as we are.
