Calm Harm provides tasks to help you resist or manage the urge to self-harm. Get started by setting your password so that it’s completely private. You can personalise it if you wish, by choosing the background colour theme and deciding on whether you would like some company using a variety of friendly characters. Calm Harm has been developed for stem4 by Dr Krause, Consultant Clinical Psychologist using the basic principles of an evidence based treatment called Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Catch It
Catch It is a joint project between the Universities of Liverpool and Manchester, to help users better understand their moods through use of an ongoing diary. The app was designed to illustrate some of the key principles of psychological approaches to mental health and well-being, and specifically Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Chill Panda
Chill Panda is a free app that allows children and adults to start to understand how their bodies respond to different feelings. To start learning about this you can use the app to take your heart rate, use a simple scale to rate your feelings, and then do some play based activities demonstrated to you by a panda avatar. It aims to enhance self-regulation of emotions by introducing ideas and skills that could help children and families understand the relationship between their feelings, body sensations and different activities.
Farm Work Welfare
A new app designed to help tackle the labour exploitation and modern slavery in the farming, horticulture and food production sectors. Launched by the Church of England’s modern slavery initiative, it provides information on employment rights in eight languages and gives guidance on how to prevent labour exploitation.
HEADSPACE
Supports people to engage in meditation and mindfulness exercises. The free basics pack teaches people the essentials of living a healthier and happier life, whilst the paid subscription upgrade offers access to hundred of guided meditations that can be used for ‘meltdown moments’, sleep hygiene and healthier relationships.

This speech-to-text app transcribes your voice and shows the text on the screen. This could be really useful for people who struggle to hear, especially in the current times where wearing face masks prohibits lip reading. You can also choose from a variety of languages. Versions differ for Android and Apple.

An app developed by Anxiety Disorders Association of British Columbia. Aimed at teens and young adults, its goal is to support people to manage their anxiety. Exercises focus on managing sleep, intense emotions, perfectionism, social anxiety, performance anxiety, worry, panic and conflict.
RCPsych Mental Health App
Developed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, this is an information sharing app offering short leaflets around common mental health problems such as eating disorders, personality disorder and PTSD. It also contains links to videos which offer some information regarding issues such as coming of antidepressants and choosing the right treatments.
SilverCloud
SilverCloud is an online course to help you manage stress, anxiety and depression. You work through a series of topics selected by a therapist to address specific needs. The eight-week course is designed to be completed in your own time and at your own pace.
SilverCloud is only available via an NHS referral, or some non-NHS universities. Visit the website for further details. You can access SilverCloud from any computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access.
STAY ALIVE
This is a suicide prevention app. It includes tools such as a safety plan, encourages people to think about reasons for living and suggests grounding techniques. There is also information for families/carers and those bereaved by suicide.
Student Health
The Student Health App provides easy access to more than 900 pages of reliable health information all in one place. The content has been created for university students by NHS doctors and is regularly updated. Use the app to reduce your worries, feel more confident and get the support you need at what can be a challenging time for any student.
Uplifter
An evidence based, positive psychology approach to uplifting mood by encouraging gratitude, positivity and happiness. It starts with a basic assessment to suggest the most appropriate exercises. It includes a mood graph which, over time, can be used to reflect on potential patterns of mood and triggers. There is a free version and the option to upgrade to ‘pro’ for £10.49 per year.
WELLMIND
Developed for the NHS, this app aims at supporting wellbeing by combating stress, anxiety and depression. It includes various tips to help manage these problems and includes a mood tracker to examine over time. Wellmind offers information on common mental health problems and tips for what to do and who to contact in a mental health crisis. This could then be useful for families. There is an interactive game on there which offers tips for managing mental health whilst playing. This could be useful for distraction.
WorryTree
The WorryTree app aims to help you take control of worry wherever you are. You can use the app to record whatever you feel worried about. It uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques to help you notice and challenge your worries. It can also help you create an action plan for managing worry.
