Stress Awareness Month Blog!
April is Stress Awareness month and the theme is regain connection, certainty and control!
We will be talking about stress and stress management in across our peer groups at points this month!
We are also running a Stress Awareness Workshop at 11am on the 28th of April. This workshop is free to access and is taking place via Zoom.
To mark Stress Awareness Month 2021 we have asked the staff in the Derby City Life Links office what they do to relieve stress in their own lives.
‘In times when I experience stress, when I don’t feel able to control or manage a situation; by control I don’t mean every part, more like the big things like managing work commitments, or even something worse; in these circumstances I tend to seek quieter places to think and get a bit of perspective on things. This could be a walk around with our dog (not far though as he is 13 now) listening to some music while thinking. ‘
- Kev Jukes (Recovery Worker)
‘I find that the best way to help me destress is by writing, I love getting things out on paper. It is a fantastic way to get out everything that is going on in your head. I’m currently writing my own book that I hope to self publish one day.’
- Abbie Peck (Volunteer)
‘I aim to run a few miles each week! It keeps me grounded and lowers my stress levels. I don’t always want to run but I know I always feel good once I have finished!’
– Rebecca Isherwood (Recovery Worker)
‘I have found spending time at the Allotments in my spare time. I love the idea of starting something and watching it grow with love and care .
It adds a lot of structure and purpose into my everyday life and it is amazing to eat something you have grown yourself .Spending time in green spaces helps promote well being this is why I love it !’
- Chipo Vera (Recovery Worker)
‘Music helps me destress – usually while cleaning the kitchen, listening (singing along) to whatever I feel like. Sometimes it’s heavy; sometimes it’s the Hamilton soundtrack!’
- Josh Mitchell (Recovery Worker)
‘When I experience stress, I find that it helps me to focus on looking after myself both physically and mentally. It is important for me to indulge in self-care and do the things I know relax me and make me feel good. I find reading a really useful tool as it helps to distract my mind from the things that are causing me stress. I also do something I like to call a ‘mind dump’ which is where I write all of the things that are on my mind on a piece of paper so they are out of my head. It helps give me some clarity’
- Leah Hood (Volunteer Co-ordinator)
