We were honoured to be invited to the first ever event for Sudanese Voices Ambassadors in Derby City on Friday 28th February. The event was called ?Shukran Party?, which simply means ?thank you?.
The event was attended by many organisations that we work with around the city to support refugees & asylum seekers such as Upbeat, Red Cross and the Refugee Centre. The purpose was to celebrate all these amazing organisations together with networking opportunities, food, drink and dance.
The organisers spoke of support they have received from the multicultural centre, as well as the tremendous support from around the city. To our pleasant surprise, we were then presented a Shukran certificate for our ?outstanding dedication and commitment in support asylum seekers and refugees?.? This was presented by Derby Sudanese Voices ambassadors and Ahmed Alabdali, the lead of Derby Voices forum.
We also say ?Shukran!? to the Sudanese Voices Ambassadors for the Warm welcome and Recognition.
Did you know?
Refugees and asylum seekers often have to endure the most difficult of circumstances to get to where they are. The painful decision to flee one?s country alongside the often treacherous journeys to get here could take their toll on anyone. As a community, we can help by welcoming and including people. We can do this in many different ways, such as simply spending time cooking with people.
