Voices, Visions and Variety
Some people hear, see and sense things that others don’t, and can include experiences from all of the 5 senses: hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. Some may experience one type of sensation (e.g. hear voices) and for other they may experience multiple types of sensations (e.g. hear voices and see visions).
Having these experiences can be extremely distressing for some people, and comforting and even inspirational for others. The reasons behind why people may experience sensations is still not fully understood, however there are many theories that may help to explain them, including: Trauma and life experiences, Biochemical, Special gift/ ability, Bereavement/Loss, Spiritual experience, Legal/ Illegal Drugs, Emotional distress, Physical health problems, and ‘Dissociation – May feel disconnected from self and the world, and may feel detached from body or feel as though the world around is unreal’ (Mind.org)
